Q:So what's this about a girlfriend policy? :p
My girlfriend policy?
Gee, I wonder who is asking me this since only about a handful of people know about it.
Obviously, I’d only date for marriage. Any other kind of relationship, like a fling, would be a waste of time. And when it comes to this “policy,” there’s an important process that follows:
- I have to be physically attracted to the woman (although this is initially important, it’s her personality and love for Christ that is most fundamental).
- She has to LOVE Christ. And I don’t mean lukewarm “I like Christ.” I mean, LOVE! She’s got to have Proverbs 31 characteristics!
- Now if she passes #1 and #2, she’ll have to meet my brothers and receive their approval when she and I want to get a little more serious. My brothers are my accountability partners, and I trust that they’ll be honest and call out things that I can’t see because I’m “blinded by love.” If she gets approved by all three brothers (Michael, Bronson, and Paul), then we move to #4.
- My parents have to like her a lot and approve. Family is important to me! If I marry her, I’ll be a part of her family, and she’ll be a part of mine. It’s important that my brothers and my parents like her and approve.
That’s pretty much my policy. What’s yours?
