I finally caught “Mud,” the film that stars Matthew McConaughey. It is a must-see #indie #film. Set in rural Arkansas, the movie is about two 14-year-old best friends who often venture out in the Mississippi River to explore its islands. In search of a boat stuck in a tree, they find a man named Mud, a fugitive who wants to reunite with his girlfriend. As a coming-of-age #movie, it addresses what #masculinity and #family mean in the South amidst the #change caused by #modernization, something very reminiscent of Huckleberry Finn. At first I thought the film was going to be a romance movie about Mud reuniting with his girlfriend. But it wasn’t, and thank goodness too! The film explores various #relationships: from the father-son to the best friends to the husband-wife and so forth. It explores the 4 #Greek loves: agape, philia, eros, and storge. The actors were perfectly casted, especially the boys: Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland). Your heart breaks for them and what they have to experience, perhaps because you understand and have gone through it yourself.
