- KJ-52 ft. Lecrae: “The Like Me”
An honest to goodness, awesome song. For the longest time, people have wanted these two to work together. And they did!!!
The Great thing about Christian Rap is that there is no “hate” or “ugly rivaling” going on. We are all God’s so we build up, edify, and sharpen each other.
This song addresses “the elephant in the room” as Lecrae says. Lecrae and the Reach Records movement had spearheaded and pushed Christian Rap to the forefront more than any other group. In doing so, there have been MANY new Christian and non-Christian followers alike. Many are white-Christians who are notoriously huge on backing CCM (Christian Contemporary Music, i.e. Third Day etc).
Lecrae and Reach have thrown a curve-ball in the CCM world by bringing in “Hip-Hop,” which is notoriously backed by Black people. Furthermore, this is CHRISTIAN! That’s the amazing thing.
KJ-52, a white Christian rapper, will tell you a little bit about how he struggled with identity as a white rapper… let alone as a white Christian rapper.
I love the contrast here, and the video. Well done, and fantastic :)
As Lecrae says, we as Christian do not see color lines as barriers because all we should be seeing is “Red” - like cyclops - for we as Christians are all covered in Christ’s blood; a part of a “Forever Family.”
Hip Hop ain’t dead, its been Born Again.
