Suzy Rock and Sho Baraka - From HiSoc ( High Society ).
HiSoc is more than just music, its a culture. Sho Barak - known for his amazing music alongside the boys of 116 (Reach Records) has teamed up with JR, Jamm, Swoope, and Suzy Rock to create a Mixed positive Hip-Hop group/culture.
High Society is more than “positive music” it is about Living out the Gospel - bridging the Gap between “Worship” that we Christians engage in and introducing the Love of God and Goodness of His workers to everyone (especially those outside of His fold). Check out Their page.
Sho Baraka, the most notable brother of the group left Reach Records to pursue a direction that was beyond solely Christian music. Somewhat irked by how Christian music seems to become an industry to Christians on their own, Sho was looking to branch out. Sho has not left behind his 116 brothers at all, he still travels with them doing the ManUp Tour and program while on this new venture; he has simply decided on this new chapter in life.
That given I think Sho has also left an indwelling effect on Lecrae’s direction - attempting to reach the lost with a message that doesn’t slam “holy art thou” in their face, but with something they can identify with, and want more of. Lecrae followed after the Hip-Hop culture as a youngin’ and was dramatically affected when he saw Men of God who, like him, were a part of the culture BUT put God first int their lives. Since Jesus Music with Trip Lee - Christian Rap has never been the same and is continually evolving today. Lecrae’s next Mixtape will be focused on the “unsaved” lost in the culture… warning Christians not to “Freak out” because it isn’t “Rebel.” Love where this is headed. And we Christian’s need to support them in their Mission! (Even if it means rapping with non-Christian artist like Steven Cooper(song with Akon) is - yet still having a positive/loving or Christian message…or just good innocent music like the one above).I think this sums up a good chunk of the debate here: “I’m really glad Tim Tebow didn’t just play football with Christians…” - Steven Cooper
Haha ;)
